1. Does it cost me anything?

No. Our service is completely free.

2. Will you pay my debts for me?

No. We will not use our money to pay your debts. We will put together a sustainable budget for you based on your income and your living expenses. Any money left over will be divided amongst your creditors based on the size of the debt you owe to them. We will then walk with you through the process.

3. Can you write off my debts?

In most cases we will help you deal with your debts through a repayment plan. If your debts are significant and it appears that you will never be able to pay them off our adviser will suggest the best route in your circumstances and then assist and support you as far down that route as possible. We can help you file for Bankruptcy or refer you to reputable administrators of Individual Voluntary Arrangements (IVAs) and Debt Relief Orders (DROs)

4. Who do you help?

We help anyone who is serious about sorting out their money problems. We are a Christian charity but we will help anyone regardless of their religious beliefs, age, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, nationality or disability.

5. Do you help people living in my area?

We cover a large area of the North North Yorkshire Dales.   Check our list to see whether you live in one of the areas in which we an help you.

6. Will you tell anyone about my situation?

No. All information that you share with our advisors will be kept confidential. We will only speak to your creditors (people who you have borrowed money from) with your permission and written authority.

7. Will I have to do what you advise me to?

Yes and no. You don’t have to take our advice but once you have agreed to pay back a certain amount to your creditors each month it is important that you stick to your agreement or let us know if you find you cannot pay.

8. What qualifies you to give debt advice?

Our advisers are trained by Community Money Advice. We are licensed by the Office of Fair Trading to give debt advice.

9. I am self employed, can you help me?
We are unable to give advice on business debts. We can however suggest other agencies that can help you tackle your business debt problems. We are also willing to try to see if there is any other form of community based support that you might find helpful.

10. Do my partner and I both need to be involved?

Yes. We encourage every couple to face their debt problems together, even if only one partner has the debt. We know that household expenses are usually shared and if we treat you individually it is very difficult to see the full picture of what is and isn’t being paid.
